The deck cover is finished and I have put up my Christmas things. We are just about all settled and now we can relax and enjoy the rest of the winter.

Covering porch

We are sick of the birds sitting in the tree and pooping on our porch so Dennis and two of our friends are building a cover over the top. It is about half way done and they should finished it on Monday. Will be nice to sit outside without worrying about the birds and even when it rains.

Work begins

We have arrived back in Texas, unpacked the Motor Home and settled into the park model and with that we have begun the work that needs to be done here. First things first and that was to have this tree removed from our site. It is a hackberry tree and was rotted almost all the way around the base and ready to fall over. When the guys were done taking it down, Dennis then burned the rest of the stump and removed it as well. Our lot looks bare without it and we will miss the shade that it gave but it had to go. Now on to planting grass seed and thinking about what flowers to plant and making the lot look nice, and of course getting ready to put up Christmas decorations.

Frost on the ground

There was frost on the ground the day before we left Giles Campground, so now we knew it was time to go before the white on the ground was snow. We left Michigan on October 31st, Halloween day and arrived at Wilderness Lake RV Resort on November 2nd.

Trick or treat

The kids also went trailer to trailer to trick or treat, even the boss got dressed up as a werewolf and went out to scare the kids. Everyone had a very good day.

Hay Ride

Saturday we also had a hay ride for the kids, as you can see I got picked to drive the wagaon around the park. They had fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On Saturday the 22nd we had halloween at Giles, one of the activities was craving pumpkins. The kids had a good time and all the pumpkins were great. I craved Eeyore.

These are pictures I took one morning at sun rise. These are the parent swans and 4 of their children. They had 5 at the beginning of the summer and all 5 lived. Where the 5th child is here I do not know but we had not seen the children in a couple of weeks, just the parent. It was great to see most of them together again and really great it was at sun rise.

Water lines to replace

Dennis and Bruce Covault (one of the seasonal) used a trencher today and dug a trench to replace a water line that has been leaking. It was hard work but much better than digging with a shovel.

October is here

October has arrived and the other co-managers have left the campground. Now is the time to get all the work done we could not do this summer when all the seasonal were here. One of the jobs to complete is painting the restrooms. Started with restroom #1 and then on to restroom #3. It took two days to get both painted and to get restroom #1 put back together but OMG it looks great. Tomorrow I will put #3 back together and Dennis will get the door done and the frame and then we can move on to the other two. Lots of hard work but we are loving our summer and fall at Giles campground and are going to miss all the seasonals this winter.

Pig Roast

ON Sept 17th Terry,(the one kissing the pig) Klyde, and Bud roasted a pig for everyone in the campground. We had a hugh turn out almost everyone who camps here was in that weekend and came to the pig roast. Everyone had a good time and lot of food.

Clyde and his wife Cathy went out fishing and Clyde caught a snapping turtle. Clyde is the gentleman in blue. They brought it to shore and Bruce (another seasonal ) took him and chopped off his head. This turtle was a big one and very strong, Bruce had all he could do to carry him as he keep twisting and turning to try and bite Bruce. Bruce then later cleaned him and froze the meat. They say they are going to have a big party and eat him. That should be fun for all who attend.

Jack 10 months old

Jack is 10 months old in a few days and as you can see he still thinking he is little. He starts out putting his front paws on Dennis's lap and wants petted. Before you know it he is all the way up with both back paws and laying down. He must weight a good 50 lbs and it is all Dennis can do to hold him but he will not give up trying. Oh the joys of owning a puppy, thank God he does not try it with me I know I could not hold him.

Fishing Tournament

We had a fishing tournament at Giles campground. It rain during the tournament but everyone had fun. 30 lbs of fish was caught, even a pike was caught. We gave out 5 First prizes and everyone who fish got a prize too. We are very much enjoying our summer here and everyone has made us feel at home here. We are starting to get to know most of the seasonal and even making friends. We are looking forward to the end of the summer tho and heading home to Texas as we really miss all our winter Texan friends.

Mill Creek Saw Mill

We went to day and saw how they use to cut logs by hand and how they use water to run a saw mill that was built in 1790. It was so great to see the differents and understand how it made their lifes so much easier. By hand they could cut up to 14 boards a day and with the water saw mill they could cut 10 times that many. The kids working at Mackinaw are well learned and are so willing to share their knowledge.

Took a few days off and drove to the Mackinaw Bridge and spend a few days. Went to the Island on Monday. Love going there, nothing changes. We watch them shoot off a cannom, and rifes. We also went to see the Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse, we climb to the top of it and it was cool.

The owner of Giles Campground set up fireworks on the beach and set them off. We have not seen fireworks for 4 years and these were some of the best I have ever seen.

Giles Campground had a bike parade for the kids for the 4th of July. They decorated their bikes and took them all around the campground. It was not a contest but everyone got a prize for finishing. Fun was had by all.

Horseback riding

Once again I must apologize for not keeping up with my blog. Our summer seems to be going by so fast and I do not seem to find the time to be on the computer like I would like. Have been looking up old friends and have been trying to spend more time with family. Here you can see we did a horseback riding adventure with the kids from Giles Campground and I took the grandkids along. I must say I think that Nikolai had the most fun, not sure he had ever been that close to a horse before, but he was not scared and had the best time ever. My sister Sally & husband was down for a visit and with her came her son Troy and his son Corey. It was the first time we had met Corey and the grandkids were excited to know they had a cousin. Corey also went horseback riding and fun was had by all. It was a great weekend and we hope to have many more in the future.

Swan Lake

Memorial weekend

Memorial weekend was full and it had rained for several days so we had to be creative and put tents where it was dryer. Everyone had a good time and most did not seem to worry about the rain. The docks are looking great and everyone is enjoying them.

First I must say I am sorry for not posting anything for so long. We have been busy. We are enjoying Giles campground so very much and it is great to be on this beautiful lake that Dennis went out and purchase a pontoon boat. We have been out several times and the grandkids are really enjoying it.

The summer begins

We arrived in Allegan on April 21st and begin our new jobs with Giles Campground. The experience began with us getting stuck trying to get into to our new site but as you all know about Dennis we got it in and settled for the summer. The reason we got stuck was because it had been raining and continued to rain for another week to 10 days after we arrived. But we have begun our jobs and as you can see the big project was to get the docks put together and into the water. These are brand new docks and it was a learning process for all of us involved. David our son came out to help and of course Dennis and our co-manager Steve (whom we will work with all summer), also included was Art (the owner and his brother Richard). We may have started out not know how these docks went together but we got them there and into the water. It is a beautiful lake (Swan Lake) and it is a beautiful campground. It is well keep up and clean and I think this is going to be a GREAT summer. Will do my best to keep the blog up and lots of pictures. P.S. Jack loves it here too.

Yesterday Jack went to the vet and had surgery. We had him fixed (so no puppies from this guy) and had his dewclaws removed. He came home with this cone on his head because they do not want him licking his stitches and he has tried already to do so. In two weeks he goes back and has the stitches removed. He has grown alot since we got him and still has all his puppy engery. Will be good when he finally slows down, he gives Dennis and I a run for our money, we just do not have the engery that he has.

Texas wildflowers

You can always tell when spring has come to Texas. The wildflowers come out in great form. The bluebonnets are up and so are the Indian paintbrush. Of course these pink ones are all over the road side. I love spring and lets hope this means the cold weather is gone for another season.

Car Port

We are in the process of enclosing the car port into a full garage. We have the siding on now and a door in the back. We are going to get a garage door and have that installed and that should pretty much finish the garage. It nice to have a garage to park the 1950 GMC truck into maybe now we will drive it more because it will not be as hard to get it out.

NEW PUPPY

The putppy is growing at a great rate and has more energy than we can keep up with. He tries with all his heart to make friends with the cat but she wants nothing to do with him (maybe because of all that energy). He have finally named him Jack after several people we have loved in our lifes, but mostly for Dennis's Uncle Jack who passed away and for Dennis's Navy buddy who now lives in Kansas.

Our granddaughter arrived in Texas on Wednesday the 15th and on Thursday the weather was in the 80's so we went to the beach. We ran around bare footed and as you can see Alexis even went into the water. We collected sea shell which there seems to be an abundance of, we collected some really big ones and got about a mixing bowl full. It was a great day and we all had fun, the only thing missing was the dog and she would have love running in the water and chasing after Alexis.

The 2nd day we travel to Canadian boarder and then on to Whitehores, Yukon Territory. We stayed at Hi Country Rv and it snowed during the night. We got up and travelled to Fort Nelson and stayed at Triple "G" Hideaway. That was a 587 mile day. We were tired and sleep well. We then travelled on the 3rd day to Valleyview, Alberta and stopped for the night at Sherk RV park. It is a beautiful park and tomorrow we plan on traveling to Saskatoon Saskatchewan.

We left Denali and travel to Fairbanks and fuel up the Motor Home and got grocery from there we travelled to Tok and spend the night. In the morning we had a very pretty sun rises.

The campground is almost empty and it is time to go. We packed down and put the truck on the back and drove out of the bear loop. We stopped at the wolf loop and then the caribou and closed the gates and locked up for the winter. The sun was out and it was a beautiful day so we headed for Fairbanks where we gas up the Motor Home and got some grocerys and headed for Tok, Alaska. We arrived at 6 p.m. and settled down for a quiet night and some sleep. Tomorrow we will cross into Canada and start our long trip to Michigan.

The season coming to an end

You can tell the season is almost over when we get sunsets like these and when Host site #2 is empty. Only 4 1/2 days to go and we also will be hitting the road. It has been very cold in the morning 28 degrees for a week now but the sun comes out and it is in the 60's and beautiful. Maybe we will be lucky this year and get out of Denali and not be snow on. Will be good to get home to the warm weather and to see the grandkids. I know they have grown.

Bus trip to Visitor Center

Last Thursday we took a bus trip out to Eielson visitor center. On the way we saw the big 5. That is the Dall Sheep, Caribou, Moose, Grizzle bear, and we seen the wolves. This is a young female that was right side the road and she looked like she had just wake up from a nap. It was cloudy at the visitor center so we did not see the mountain but outside of that fact it was a great day.

This is a picture of Bill (dad), Amarins (mom), Cheyenne 7, Jasmine 5, and Robin 3. We met them in Denali at Riley Creek. They camp with us from July 26 to Aug 8th. They travel on this custom made bike built for 5 from MT Vernon Kentucky to Alaska. They have finally arrived in Fairbank on Aug 13th. We enjoyed their stay and if you wish to see about their entire trip please visit their web site at www.pedouins.org We really enjoy the youngest girl Robin, she was very out going and friendly and talk to us everyday when we were on duty. We wish them all the luck they need as they are going to spend the winter in Fairbanks and see how the true Alaskan makes it.

Bull Moose 2010

We took a drive out back on Friday and saw our first bull moose. He still has the velvet on and has not started to rub it off. Soon he will and then we will see the females in the area and more bull moose.

Thursday we made a trip to Fairbanks and while we were there we visited an Antique Car Museum. One of the cars was this 1934 Offenhauser midge. It is like the one Dennis's dad use to race. More pictures to come later.

Dall Sheep

Today we took a hike up the Savage River Trail hoping to see Dall Sheep. We did not think we were going to be this lucky. When we topped the ridge, there were 5 male Dall Sheep right there. We sat for an hour or more and just watched them eat. This was a very exciting day and well worth the hike to the top of the ridge.

Our visitor

We had a visitor yesterday. Here is the story. A few days ago we asked the Wildlife Techs to put a live trap under our Motor Home as there was a squirrel getting up in to the front compartment. The trap sat there for a couple of days and then one morning when we came back from our 10 a.m. rounds it was gone. We thought that the Wildlife Techs had came and gotten it. That afternoon the Techs came by and stopped and asked what happen to their trap. They had not taken it and thought some one else had walk off with it. We then started to tell them about our fox who was hanging out at our Motor Home on the patio. It was not moving even when people would walk up on the lot or we would try to get back in the Motor Home. While talking about this they starting looking around. Come to find out the cage was under the Motor Home and there was a squirrel in it. There was part of his tail missing and all we can figure out is the fox tried to get the squirrel and pulled the cage back under the Motor Home. So the Wildlife Techs took our squirrel and will release him into the back country and fox, well, it is still stopping by for a brief moment now and then to see if there is any more squirrels hang out it can get.

We took a hike the other day to the savage river trail. The flower were really pretty and there were some we have not seen before. It has rain a lot this year and that made the flowers come out in full force. It is beautiful in Denali National Park and now that summer has arrived it is so full of color. WE LOVE IT HERE.

Old Mother Moose

This is a picture of our collar moose. She has been coming into Riley Creek campground the whole time that we have been coming here. According to our animal biologist she has been coming here all her adult life and he says she is older than he is (of course that is moose years not human). This year she came with her yearling and did not have a calf so when she left the yearling was still with her. This is the 1st summer she has not gave birth so she must be pass her reproducing years. It was good to see her but am glad she only stayed a day or two because if you all remember she is the one that put Dennis behind a tree and keep him there for about 45 minutes.

We went to employee's night at Cabin Night. They feed you really well, Salmon, Ribs, Fish and more it is all good and delicious. Then they put on a show. As the pictures tell Gene made friends with one of the girls and we all had a good laugh and a good time.

Mama moose

You can tell it is spring when the mother moose come to Riley Creek and have their calfs. We have two mothers these are pictures of just one. Our new co workers got their first really good look at her as you can see, she was close enough to look in their trailer window. The wildlife in Denali is the whole bases to the park and everyone enjoys them so much. Well not everyone. As you all might have seen (or might not) on TV we had a grizzle bear killed a few days ago. Yes our oh so smart Congress passed a law that you can carry guns in the National Park now, not discharge it just carry it. Well we had a backpacker decided he could so he would. A bear came out of the brush and he shot it 9 times. There has not been a bear killed in Denali that anyone can remember but this guy has changed all that. I always thought backpackers knew how to enjoy nature and knew how to avoid a conflict with wild life. Must be not all backpackers love nature, and for God sake this is a Wildlife Preserve!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Arrived in Alaska

On Thursday May 6th we arrived at the North Pole, Alaska and have settled down for a couple of days to grocery shop and do laundry. Sunday the 9th we will go to Denali National Park and settle down for the summer. It has been a good trip except for the snow and a broken windshield on the coach.

Sign Post Forest

On May 4th we arrived in Lake Watson safely, we took a walk over to the sign forest and put one of our old license plates on one of the poles. So after 5 years we have left our mark on the sign forest in Canada. It was a good day travelling we got to see Caribou, Big Horn Sheep, a Black Bear, a Grizzle Bear, some Bison, a couple of mother moose with yearlings, and a wolf, and we have not even got to Alaska yet.

Yes it snow

Yea Yea that right we found snow in Canada. On Monday the 3rd of May we got caught in a snow storm. We were half way between Fort Nelson and Toad River (where we planned on spending the night), and we had to stop at a rest stop with alot of truck drivers. We spend 18 hours there, (from 2 p.m. till 9 a.m.) then in the morning the snow plow trucks showed up and plowed the road, they were still very icy but we went on with care and made it to Watson Lake. As you can see from the pictures it was a beautiful sun rise. It is always adventure coming to Alaska.

Travels to Alaska

Sorry no pictures but we left Michigan on Wednesday the 28th and have travelled thru Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota and have stopped in Minot North Dakota for the night. Tomorrow we will cross over into Canada and begin the long trek across that country. We will meet up with Gene & Inez Ennis in Edmonton Alberta and continue on with them. They ran into snow this morning in Wyoming. We have not seen any snow but it did rain on us most of today. Traveling seems strange without our beloved Mariah. Will post more when we can get internet.

Bridal Shower

Yesterday Alexis and I went to a bridal shower for my cousin's daughter. It was odd as it seems like yesterday she was a baby and now she is a grown woman and will be getting married in July. The shower was fun and I got to see family I had not seen in a long time.

Sad Day

To all our friends who knew our dog Mariah. We had to put her to sleep today, it was the hardest decision we made in a long time. We will miss her more than we can say. REST IN PEACE, WE LOVE YOU.

Travelling soon

The park is nearly empty and we have begun to packing the Motor Home. We are leaving on Saturday the 10th and going to Kansas for a few days. From there we will go to Michigan, after a short time there it is on to Alaska for another great summer in Denali National Park. There is only about 3 lots with winter texans left in our neighborhood. It is very quiet and lonely now and it has been in the 80's for over a week, so it is time to travel.

Spring has sprung in Texas

There are wild flowers everywhere and they are prettier than we have ever seen them. There are even Indian paintbrushes (have not got pictures of them yet) everywhere. It is sad tho because spring means that alot of our neighbors are packing up and getting ready to head home (alot have left already). It won't be long till we are parked and ready to head to Michigan and from there back to Alaska. One nice thing tho we get to see spring all the way to Michigan and then again all the way to Alaska. Spring is my favorite time of the year and I just love seeing all the wild flowers and everything else starting to grow.

St. Patty Day picnic at Wilderness Lakes RV Resort

The pancake club at Wilderness Lake held a St. Patty's day picnic. They had hot dogs and potato salad and other things. Everyone was invited and lots of people show up. Lots of fun was had by all. Soon people will start travelling home and about April 10th we will be leaving, then the park will be empty.

Skirting & Deck

We have finally finished putting skirting around the park model. This helps keep the animal from going under the park model and it also keeps it warmer from the wind.
Dennis also added a deck and we have really enjoy it. With everything done we had an open house so anyone in the park who wanted to see the park model could do so. Lots of people came and looked, lots of them we did not even know. There are lots of new people in the park.

We finally got our new furniture, it looks good in the living area and we really really enjoy our fireplace it keeps us warm on these cold mornings. Will post more pictures when Dennis gets the deck all done. We will probly have an open house later, so anyone who wants to can look our park model over.
